McMenamins Anderson School
The crown jewel of Bothell wedding venues, McMenamins Anderson School is a beautifully restored 1931 schoolhouse turned boutique hotel, restaurant, and event space. The historic brick exterior, ivy-covered courtyards, and original auditorium give every wedding a built-in cinematic backdrop. Capacity ranges from intimate elopements of 20 in the smaller spaces up to 250 guests in the North Shore Lagoon or full venue buyout. Couples can host both ceremony and reception on-site, and the 72 on-site guest rooms make it incredibly convenient for out-of-town families.
From a photographer's perspective, Anderson School is a dream. The west-facing brick walls glow during golden hour, the courtyard fountains and string-lit garden offer multiple ceremony backdrops, and the indoor swimming pool (yes, really) is one of the most unique reception spaces in Snohomish County. Light inside the auditorium is mixed and warm, so we plan for off-camera flash during evening receptions. Price range typically runs $8,000–$18,000+ for venue and food/beverage minimums depending on day of week and season. Best season: May through October, with September being the sweet spot for warm light without summer haze.
Hidden Meadows of Snohomish
About 25 minutes north of Bothell in Snohomish, Hidden Meadows is one of our most-photographed venues for couples who want a private estate feel without leaving Snohomish County. The property includes a renovated barn reception space, a tree-lined ceremony meadow with a wooden arbor, and rolling lawn with mountain views on clear days. Capacity is up to about 250 guests, with both indoor barn reception and outdoor ceremony options. Pricing starts around $6,500 for off-peak dates and climbs into the $10,000–$14,000 range for peak Saturdays.
Photography at Hidden Meadows is exceptional because the property is oriented to capture late-afternoon western light directly across the ceremony meadow. We typically position couples for portraits along the tree line at the back of the property between 6:30–8:00 PM in summer for that dreamy backlit look. The barn itself has lovely warm wood tones but limited natural light, so reception coverage requires flash. Best season: late June through early October. Avoid early spring — the meadow is gorgeous but can be muddy after Pacific Northwest rains.
Wallace Falls State Park
For couples drawn to a rugged, natural Pacific Northwest aesthetic, Wallace Falls State Park (about 40 minutes northeast of Bothell, near Gold Bar) is an unforgettable choice for elopements and small weddings. Capacity is limited — typically 20–30 guests for permitted ceremonies — and the venue is purely outdoor. Permits run roughly $200–$400 through Washington State Parks, making this one of the most affordable ceremony options in the region. There's no on-site reception space, so most couples pair the ceremony with a private dinner at a Bothell or Sultan restaurant.
The photography here is unlike anything else in Snohomish County. Towering Douglas firs, mossy boulders, and the falls themselves create a moody, fern-and-mist forest backdrop. Light is heavily filtered through the canopy, which is gorgeous but technically demanding — we shoot wide open at high ISO and bring portable lighting for portrait sessions. Best season: late May through September. Avoid winter (icy trails) and early spring (full creek can flood the lower viewpoints).
Bothell Landing Waterfront
Bothell Landing is a charming city park along the Sammamish River with a historic gazebo, restored 1893 schoolhouse, and a covered amphitheater that the City of Bothell rents for ceremonies and small receptions. Capacity is around 100 guests for the gazebo ceremony space, and rental fees are very affordable — typically $400–$1,200 depending on day and season. This is the budget-friendly Bothell wedding venue that still delivers genuine charm.
The riverside trail provides excellent portrait locations with reflective water, willow trees, and the historic gazebo as backdrops. Light is best in the late afternoon when the sun drops behind the trees on the far bank, creating warm rim light across the river. The downside is that this is a public park, so other visitors will be present. We plan portrait sessions for early morning or just before sunset to minimize background distractions. Best season: June through early September, with summer evenings being especially magical.
Country Village (Bothell)
Once the beloved shopping village in north Bothell, Country Village has transitioned in recent years, but several of its garden courtyards and chapel-style buildings have continued to host small weddings and vow renewals through private rentals. Capacity is typically 50–100 guests in the remaining functional spaces. Pricing varies widely depending on which space and operator, but generally falls in the $2,500–$5,000 range. We mention it here because the rustic-storybook aesthetic still draws couples — and the surrounding areas (including nearby Mill Creek and the Sammamish River corridor) offer great alternatives if you love that vibe.
Photographically, the wood-shingled buildings, climbing roses, and weathered fencing create a fairytale aesthetic that photographs beautifully in soft overcast light — which Bothell delivers in abundance from October through April. Best season: actually shoulder season (April–May or September–October) when the light is soft and the gardens are at their fullest.
Nearby Alternatives — Lake Stevens & Lynnwood
If your Bothell shortlist isn't quite hitting the right note, it's worth widening the search to nearby cities. Trying to squeeze 200 guests into Bothell Landing's gazebo space, or planning a Wallace Falls ceremony in February, are the two most common mismatches we see. Once you've narrowed by those three filters, the photography considerations (light direction, indoor backup, portrait locations) become a useful tiebreaker rather than the leading factor.
We also recommend visiting your top two or three venues at the exact time of day your ceremony will happen. A venue that looks gorgeous on the website at 6 PM may face directly into harsh western sun at your 2 PM ceremony slot. Photographer's Light Tips for Bothell Venues
Bothell sits at roughly 47.7° N latitude, which means dramatic seasonal shifts in sunset times. In December, sunset is 4:18 PM; in late June it's 9:11 PM. Always check your wedding date's actual sunset time before locking your ceremony slot — you want ceremony to wrap at least 90 minutes before sunset so we have a buffer for family formals before the golden hour portrait window.
