Best Maternity Photo Locations in Lake Stevens, WA

Expecting couple under cherry blossoms in Lake Stevens WA

Lake Stevens is, hands down, one of our favorite places in Snohomish County to photograph an expecting family. The lake itself anchors everything — a wide, glassy stretch of water that catches the morning light and frames the Cascade peaks on a clear day — and the parks ringing it offer an unusual range of moods within a few minutes of one another. You can have soft lakefront reflections at one stop, sweeping mountain views at the next, a tunnel of trees on a quiet trail after that, and a drift of pink cherry blossoms in spring. That variety means we can build an entire Lake Stevens maternity photography session around your style without ever driving more than ten minutes between setups.

After photographing expecting families all over Lake Stevens and the surrounding county, we've narrowed our favorite local maternity spots down to six. Below we'll walk you through each one — when the light is best, which trimester suits the location, how accessible it is for someone in their third trimester, and where to park. We'll also cover trimester timing and what to wear so your bump and the season line up beautifully. If you're still mapping out the calendar, our guide on the best time for maternity photos in Snohomish County pairs perfectly with this one.

1. Lundeen Park (Lakefront)

Lundeen Park is the quintessential Lake Stevens maternity location. A gentle grassy slope runs down to a sandy swim beach and a small dock, giving us open water, soft reflections and a wide, uncluttered horizon all in one frame. This is the spot for the dreamy, glowing lakefront images so many of our clients picture when they imagine their session. Best time of day is the first hour after sunrise, when the lake is mirror-still and the light is warm and low, or the last 60 minutes before sunset for golden backlight off the water. Any trimester works here — the walk from the lot to the beach is short and the grass is level — which makes Lundeen an easy yes even at 36 weeks. Parking is free in the main lot off Hartford Drive, and there are restrooms on site, a small comfort when you're far along.

2. North Cove Park

Right in downtown Lake Stevens, North Cove Park sits on the north shore with a paved waterfront promenade, a covered pavilion, manicured lawns and the lake stretching out behind. It's the most polished, easy-walking spot on this list — entirely flat, fully paved, and stroller-friendly — which makes it our top pick for third-trimester moms and for families bringing along a toddler. Best time of day is golden hour, when the downtown side lights up and the water turns amber; overcast mornings also work beautifully here because the open sky acts like a giant softbox. Any trimester is comfortable. Parking is plentiful in the free downtown lots a short, level walk away, and the covered pavilion is a reliable backup if a quick rain shower rolls through.

3. Cavelero Park (Hilltop Cascade Views)

Cavelero Community Park sits up on a rise, and that elevation is its superpower — on a clear day the open fields look east toward the Cascade foothills and Mount Pilchuck, giving us a dramatic mountain backdrop you can't get down at the water. This is the location for couples who want something big and cinematic. Best time of day is the golden hour before sunset, when the low sun rakes across the grass and the mountains catch a warm glow. Because the park has open, gently sloping fields and some uneven turf, we generally recommend Cavelero for the second trimester or early third (roughly weeks 20–32), when footing and stamina are at their best. Parking is free and ample in the on-site lot, with restrooms available — and on a windy day up top, bring a layer.

4. Centennial Trail

The Centennial Trail runs for miles through Lake Stevens and the surrounding county, and the wooded sections create a gorgeous green tunnel of big-leaf maple, alder and fern. The light here is soft and diffused, which means this is one of the few Lake Stevens locations that looks beautiful at any time of day — including the flat-gray overcast mornings the Pacific Northwest serves up for much of the year. The trail is paved and mostly level, making it friendlier than a true forest hike, so most trimesters work well; for the late third trimester we simply keep our walking distance short and stay near a trailhead. Park free at one of the marked trailhead lots along the route, and we usually schedule weekday sessions to keep cyclists and walkers out of frame.

5. Catherine Creek Park

Catherine Creek Park is the quiet, woodsy alternative for couples who want a more intimate, natural feel without leaving Lake Stevens. Tucked among second-growth forest with a creek running through it, the park offers dappled light, mossy textures and a tucked-away calm that photographs like a private garden. Best time of day is mid-morning to early afternoon, when enough light filters down through the canopy to keep things bright; on bright summer days the tree cover keeps an expecting mom cool and comfortable. The trails are natural-surface with some gentle grade, so we lean toward the second trimester here (weeks 20–30) for the most surefooted walking. Parking is free in the small lot, and because it's a lesser-known spot we rarely share it with crowds.

6. Cherry Blossom Spot Near Lake Stevens (Frontier Heights & Downtown Trees)

For roughly two weeks in late March and early April, the ornamental cherry trees around the Frontier Heights neighborhood and the downtown Lake Stevens corridor burst into soft pink — and that natural pink palette is unbeatable for maternity portraits. The blossoms read romantic and tender on camera, and they pair perfectly with a flowing gown. Best time is early morning (7–9 AM) when the streets are quiet and the light is gentle, or just before sunset for backlit petals drifting in the breeze. Any trimester works since the sidewalks are flat and the walking is minimal. Street parking is easy in these residential pockets — just be mindful of driveways. If you're planning a spring session, our guide to scheduling around the bloom calendar will help you time it. Bloom dates shift a little each year with the weather, so the WSDOT regional weather page is a handy way to gauge how the spring is tracking.

When in Pregnancy to Schedule

For most expecting moms, weeks 28 to 34 are the sweet spot for outdoor maternity sessions in Lake Stevens. The bump is clearly defined, swelling and discomfort haven't typically peaked yet, and there's still enough energy and mobility to enjoy a 60–90 minute session without exhaustion. If you're carrying twins or measuring ahead, we usually move that window earlier — around weeks 24 to 30 — so you're comfortable on session day. If you want a fully rounded, dramatic bump, weeks 34 to 36 can absolutely work; we'll just keep the location list short and flat (Lundeen Park or North Cove, both easy walking) and the session length to about an hour.

Season matters too. If your due date lands in October or November and you want golden autumn color along the Centennial Trail or Catherine Creek, schedule for early October at the latest. If you're due in late summer and you have your heart set on cherry blossoms, you'll need a session in your second trimester to catch peak bloom. We help every client work these dates backward so the bump and the season line up — and if you'd like a local perspective on the full process, our Lake Stevens photographer page covers how we approach sessions across the seasons.

What to Wear at Lake Stevens Locations

The best maternity outfits at Lake Stevens locations follow a few simple rules. First, choose flowing fabrics — chiffon, jersey knit and soft satin — that drape over and accentuate the bump rather than hiding it. Second, pick colors that complement the setting: dusty blues, soft greens, blush and cream all sing against the lake and sky, while deeper jewel tones like emerald or wine pop beautifully against the forest at Catherine Creek and the Centennial Trail. The classic flowing gown you've seen in our portfolio is popular for a reason — it works at the water's edge, on the hilltop and beneath the blossoms. Third, layer if it's anything below 60°F; a long cardigan or soft shawl gives us styling variety and keeps you warm by the breezy lakefront.

For partners and older siblings, coordinate within a tone family rather than matching exactly. Cream, chambray, soft denim and warm earth tones photograph better than pure white or pure black against Lake Stevens' water-and-green palette. Avoid loud patterns and big logos — they pull the eye away from the bump. We send every client a styling guide before their session and we keep a small wardrobe of flowing maternity gowns available to borrow if you'd rather not buy a dress for a single shoot. When you're ready to lock in a date, you can book your Lake Stevens maternity session and we'll start mapping out your locations.
